Copper Country Mental Health Services is hiring a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) to work in the Houghton area a minimum of ten hours per week.

A PSS is a person in recovery from severe mental illness who is receiving or has received mental health services. PSSs are willing to use their own recovery experiences as a vehicle to help others, and be willing to share their personal stories of recovery with others. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of people with mental illness and their families, the ability to work as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with people in a broad range of circumstances. The skills and interests of the person hired will be considered in assigning job duties.

Once hired, the person must willingly participate in training and supervision to improve their effectiveness in the job as well as be willing to become certified by the State of Michigan as a Peer Support Specialist within a year. Minimum qualifications are life experience with mental illness, mental health services and recovery; a high school diploma or GED; valid Michigan’s driver’s license and a good driving record; ability to successfully complete required agency training.
